Hi all,

First of all, I hope this is posted in the right area of the forum... my apologies if not!

Some background about the project I am hoping to work on. It's my Son's birthday coming up soon and I have brought him a Little Tikes police car. Me being me, I was not satisfied with just having sticker decals for 'flashing lights', I decided I wanted to take it to the next level and add some LED's into the actual frame of the car. Ultimately, I want something which ends up like this... https://wokwi.com/projects/395625452979542017 (imagine this is a birds eye view looking down upon the top of the car).

So, I have gone ahead and brought a Raspberry Pi Pico, a breadboard, a few wires a bunch of LED's and resistors to start prototyping. I managed to get a couple of LED's flashing from the GPIO pins (with a 330ohm resistor between each GPIO pin and the positive side of the LED) from the Pico (which was powered by a 5V/2.1A USB power bank).

However, in the very limited amount of time I have been able to spend doing research, I am really starting to get in a position where I could do with pointing in the right direction.

I am reading a lot about not powering the LED's directly from the GPIO pins, but to just use them as controllers, which presumably means I should power the LED's from something else. I believe I have read LED's should not

I am also getting in a bit of a pickle about powering and resistors generally - I have tried to do some research and have gained a rough understanding, but free time currently is at a premium with a young child!

The LED's I have purchased are:

- https://thepihut.com/products/ultra-bri ... ed-10-pack
- https://thepihut.com/products/ultra-bri ... te-10-pack

I am looking to purchase some of these buttons to control the relevant colour lights:

- https://thepihut.com/products/16mm-illu ... off-switch
- https://thepihut.com/products/16mm-illu ... off-switch

What really I am after is some pointing in the right direction or general advice from others as to how they might attempt this project or just bits I should be weary of (I have read quite a few threads where people have been warned what they are doing could fry the Pico etc, which I would quite like to avoid doing myself!). I'm new to electronics so have not really got any solid knowledge or understanding of what I need to do, I was hoping to learn along the way, but as mentioned free time is a bit limited currently.

Many thanks in advance!
