Good Afternoon from West Yorkshire. I've been meaning for sometime now to delve deeper into doing something constructive with one of these little pocket rockets, but have not had the time to actually do anything, apart from general faffing...until now.
I'm not an IT professional - far from it - moving boats by road from Poole to the Algarve or Monaco was my occupation until I lost my wife a few years ago and moved up here from Bournemouth. However, having recently retired, I now have time to spare.
For what it's worth, I would like to add my ha'porth of experience and it is something that has bugged me for years. I'm not convinced by the dodgy card theory, although I'm sure that, for some, it played it's part. I first noticed the problem some years ago on a Pi 3 or Zero, which would not have saved my terminal preferences after booting-up. I prefer a wide terminal window and regularly had to re-set the background colour back to my mellow yellow of choice.
Firefox settings would always return to default...all my customisations would go. Worse still, any, for instance, Sonic files I saved, would have gone, never to see the light of day again.
I have always preferred quality to quantity, so I only use Samsung cards and, more recently, Sandisk, both from reputable sources.
These passed few days I have eventually been able to setup a Pi 5 with all the camera gubbins to
make a little time-lapse experiment with libcamera.
So this morning, I booted-up...Firefox and terminal settings reset...the timelapse folder and contents, timelapse.sh...all gone.
So an afternoon's tinkering was a complete waste of time.
This is under Bookworm with a 512gb Sabrent M.2 and Phison controller on a Pineboards NVMe HAT and aforementioned 8gb Pi 5.
I would venture to suggest that there is an underlying problem somewhere. Maybe Me? Especially if there are so few recorded similar instances.
Apogolies for wittering-on, thanks for getting this far - thanks if you gave-up halfway through - but has anyone any ideas?
