Since I installed the newest update of Raspberry Pi OS (2026-10-06) on my Raspberry Pi 5 and switched the taskbar setting to "Dock", I've been unable to open the Control Centre. When I try to open it using the terminal, it returns a storage access error when trying to load librpcc_wf-panel-pi.so.
Details:
Yesterday (8 October) I installed the newest update (2026-10-06) after not having installed any updates since july or august (my wifi didn't really work for quite a while). For some reason, the new settings didn't show up at first, but somehow, setting it from Wayland to Wayland (yes, really) and rebooting fixed that – simply rebooting wasn't enough, I had to set it from Wayland to Wayland first.
However, when I then switched to the dock, the Control Centre immediately crashed – it correctly switched to the dock though. Since then, whenever I try to open the Control Centre it silently crashes while loading the configs. Rpcc returns a storage access error.
The last lines before the error:What I know so far:
The problem seems to be ~/.config/wf-panel-pi/wf-panel-pi.ini, renaming that makes the Control Centre work again. The dock works as expected though, and I couldn't find any mistakes in that file either.
What could be causing this and how can I fix it?
