I am posting this from the new Trixie Raspberry Pi Desktop, running emulated with UTM on a 2021 M1 Max MacBook Pro.
I have used UTM, VMWare Fusion, and VirtualBox to virtualize native arm linux installs, but I had never even considered emulating another architecture.
Without any prior experience emulating architectures with UTM, the first attempt seems ok. I'll figure out how far my settings are from optimum as I go along.
Some years back, I used an AMD box and qemu to build some arm binaries for my Pi's, but now a 16GB Pi 5 does that just fine, completely natively.
Yeah, it is slow, but I am grinning.
Enjoy.
