Beginners • VGA with 8-bit (Z80, etc) interface

Hello! Newbie here. I am trying to use a RPP as a VGA controller interfaced to an 8-bit CPU. I'm OK with R3G3B2 and a resistor divider DAC to free up some GPIO pins. (8-bit data bus, chip select, R/W and register select) I cannot seem to find such a (complete) project. I am more of a hardware guy so creating such a software (in C, please) solution from scratch is not an option.

I am currently using a Yamaha V9958 but I'd like to offload tasks to the Pico. Ideally it would understand VT100 escape sequences w/o much CPU intervention. (clear screen, cursor control, etc)

Could someone please point me to such a project?
