Introducing PiLove: A Lightweight Game Console Distro for Raspberry Pi 2 (Armv7)
Hello, everyone! I’m excited to share an installable ISO called PiLove, based on Raspberry Pi OS Lite, specifically designed for the Pi 2 (Armv7). If anyone is interested in creating a similar image for more modern Raspberry Pi models, feel free to reach out — it’s really easy to do!
What is PiLove?
After struggling to find a solution for easily testing LÖVE games on a Raspberry Pi, especially on older hardware like the Pi 2, I realized there was no existing distro that met my needs. PiLove is a minimal distribution that includes all the necessary packages pre-installed, along with a script that lets you boot your Pi and play games directly from a simple menu. While the setup is rudimentary, it works! You can even run games through SSH and play them with a gamepad.
What Does it Look Like?
The interface is basic, but functional. The primary goal is ease of use and getting you to play LÖVE games on your Pi with minimal setup. It’s designed to be as lightweight as possible for the Pi 2’s limited resources.
Can This Be Integrated into Other Game Consoles or ISOs?
I don’t have the time or expertise to take this project further into other game console images, but if anyone is up for the challenge, feel free to expand on it!
Game Collection
While this distro doesn't include any games by default, I’ve curated a collection of games that have been specifically tweaked to run smoothly on the Pi 2. They should perform well on the device, and I’ll be sharing the link to the iso soon (currently uploading).
Contributions such as betatesting or optimizations for the games are welcome!
If you have any questions or need more details, feel free to ask!
