Media centres • ideas on hardware and technique to mount this display on an alumi

I'm putting this raspberrypi based streamer into an aluminum chassis (Hammond 1434-22).

First issue is the 40 pin extension cable. I thought I'd get an FFC/FPC cable to make the short run, but the adapter I got don't really fit. I also got two identical connectors: whoops, needed one female and one male.

Should I just use a regular 40pin ribbon cable for this extension? Or which adapters + cable should I use? Important pics attached.

Lastly: some advice on how to mount this screen. The designer chose to put a multifunction knob (clicks to turn, button click to push) on the PCB with the screen, as well as a small IR receiver. The knob has a chassis mount friendly threading and lock nut. If I use it, the screen will be sunk into the chassis about 3-5mm I'd guess. I think it's the path of least resistance, but might look stupid.

I could also cut an off shape to allow the knob, chassis nut, IR reciever, all to protrude a bit from the front. Then I could flush mount the screen PCB with the three provided bolt holes (no spacers needed).

Any advice on this stuff? Thanks!
