Graphics, sound and multimedia • vlc no audio when started by autovlc.desktop

I'm trying to setup the Pi to play videos at power on. I have this working fine from the cli and audio works fine also

vlc --loop /home/eeyore/Barn/LED-Board-2019.mp4 /home/eeyore/Barn/Parade-2025.mp4 --fullscreen

When I try running this from ./autostart/autovlc.desktop vlc runs but I don't have any audio.

I also noticed that when vlc is started by autovlc.desktop I am not able to select a Audio Device. I've tried going into tools -> preferences -> audio and selecting an output device with no luck.

When vlc is started from the cli again audio works fine looking at Audio Device its set to "Built-in Audio Digital Stereo (HDMI)"

Any suggestions ?
