I purchased my rpi5 around half a year ago, set up the OS, did pi-hole, and then put it away for months because I was busy and didn't have time for projects. It was in a case, inside a box, inside a black bubble-wrap, the worst thing that I imagine could happen if it fell somehow or overheated because of the sun.
I tried turning it on, initially it would turn the green light on and the cooler would start, then the light fould start flickering after two seconds and the rpi would power down with the cooler stopping, only to start again some two more seconds later, but without any display output.
- When I tried turning it without the SD Card, the green light was constantly on without flashing, also no display output
- When I tried to update the bootloader, it started blipping on and off frequently and non-stop
I tried different power sources, both 5V 3A and 5V 5.1A, directly from the outlet and a UPS.
I tried both microHDMI ports, and with USB-C that both charges and acts as display port over usb-c. I also edited the config.txt, but I doubt the display connectivity is the issue so didn't try too systematically
I tried flasing the SD Card multiple times, both with the 64 bit regular and the lite OS versions. I formatted the sd and tried again as well.
I tried running with an OS but without the display and the cooler.
Sometimes when I turned on with an SD card with an OS inside, the light didn't flicker as chaotically and the coolers didn't power off, but still I couldn't recognize any long/short flash message, the blips are too fast and of random length to count.
The booting forum post about rpi4/5 says that when booting without an SD card, if there are no blips it means the pi is cooked. Please help to at least verify this, I can't afford another pi if this one is dead.
