General • Pico W / 2W under Arduino IDE: MQTT?

I'm exploring different ways to build an MQTT application (sending and receiving data) on an RPi pico W/2W.

I've tried the SDK and got the WiFi to work reliably (which the examples back then did not really provide, don't know about current state here), but got stuck on MQTT and the difficulty to manage the kind of project I need to build under SDK.

Now that I have to take care of an intern, I started using the Arduino IDE, and it works quite well. I'm having about the same issues with the Wifi to work reliably - I'll probably have to implement about the same FSM to check and fix the connection statuses - but I've only seen a sending MQTT client, and this wants a "Wifi101" package, where I'm not sure if this is in any way compatible with the RPi pico.

I'd rather take on my fight with the SDK again if I had to implement MQTT under Arduino on my own, but if there was an Arduino IDE and Pico W/2W compatible MQTT lib, I'd be happy to use that.

Do you have any ideas, any pointers how to proceed?
