Raspberry Pi OS • Problem with h264 playback in chromium-browser

Hello,

I've recompiled chromium-browser 130 using latest instructions from my previous post. Actually just put folder 'debian' from https://github.com/RPi-Distro/chromium/ ... s/bookworm into sources extracted from chromium_130.0.6723.116.orig.tar.xz and then start

Code:

debuild -uc -us -b
On RPi5 it took almost two days and produces chromium and chromium-common (and few other) packages. But it doesn't produce package chromium-codecs-ffmpeg-extra; also recent chromium-codecs-ffmpeg-extra not present in raspberry repository.

So when I install my new 130 browser it not able to play h264 encoded video.
Then I found that browser 130.0.6723.116-1~deb12u1+rpt1 version from archive.raspberrypi.com demonstrate same behavior - it doesn't play h264 video if old version 126.0.6478.164-rpt1 of chromium-codecs-ffmpeg-extra not installed.

This seems to me like either support for h264 must come another way or it was dropped because of legal questions. Or maybe I did something wrong and chromium-browser 130 intended to play h264 somehow new way...

Please clarify if h264 still must be possible with chromium-browser 130 on Raspberry Pi 4/5 ?
