Troubleshooting • Problems with WordPress Filesystem access on a Raspberry Pi Web Server

Raspberry Pi OS recently installed on a 8Gb RP5 and moved to NVMe 500Gb SSD with Pimoroni HAT.

Apache2 version 2.4.57, PHP 8.2.7 and MariaDB Version 15.1 installed via Command Line prompts. Information received from chatGPT!

WordPress 6.4.3 downloaded and extracted, Sources moved to /var/www/html/local_xxx

and a database created using phpmyadmin.

Had initial problems with file permissions but directories changed to 775 and files to 644 via Permissions using Filezilla remotely.

In WordPress Admin ran Tools -> Site Health

2 Major error reports:

1. Background updates are not working as expected
Error 'Your installation of WordPress prompts for FTP credentials to perform updates (Your site is performing updates over FTP due to file ownership...)'

2. Could not access filesystem

Error 'Unable to connect to filesystem, Please confirm your credentials'

The user and group are 'doug' (without quotes) and as far as I am able to check, all files and directories are correctly owned.

What am I doing wrong?

It has not been easy to get to this stage. Should I start again and try loading XAMPP as I haven't had any problems with it running on a PC?

Many thanks

Doug
