Troubleshooting • Issues when powering with a long cable

I am using a raspberry pi 5 with and without the oem power supply and when I use variants of cable extensions I notice different powering results. With the longest cable, it only has a red led, slightly shorter cable and it will have a red led and briefly flash green once. Slightly shorter and it will hold a green led for a while before returning red and so on until it is short enough that it powers normally. This is causing a large restriction in my project. The voltage is no different when reading it from the pins on the rpi headers. Does anyone know why this is happening or how to fix it? I reckon that some power smoothing device powering using 12V and a BuckBoost converter may be a solution. Any recommendations?
