Raspberry Pi Connect • what can cause the loss of Connect-ability?

I have a couple of Pi Zero 2 W's that I'm prototyping as kiosks. The full rpi-connect is installed, not rpi-connect-lite, although I'm only using connect for shell access. They are running the latest bookworm 32-bit with desktop. labwc is installed and chosen via raspi-config JUST for the duration of the connect setup process, and then replaced by X for deployment (I haven't figured out how to configure and run my kiosk under labwc yet.) I had no trouble using Connect for shell access, even when the boxes were set back to X.

Sometime recently, my Connect Devices page stopped showing the Connect icons for these devices (it remembered the devices). Of course I couldn't connect. I took this to mean I wasn't signed in anymore? In any case, repeating the labwc / signin process /back to X process got me back in business.

This concerns me, though. I want to deploy these to remote sites soon and I want connect to stay working. They will update and reboot themselves periodically, so for one thing, I need to know that Connect-ability is supposed to survive any number of reboots, or apt upgrades..

What can be happening?

(... and I wouldn't be surprised if I'm the cause of my own problems - trying to do what I shouldn't - like using the Zero2Ws, or 32-bit, or running under x, ...)
