I finally got around to trying to setup my Raspberry Pi 5. I use a mac, have downloaded the imager, properly formatted the SD card, and theoretically have a good RPi os installed, but I either can’t get it to boot up completely with the OS, or I can’t get it to work with my monitor.
I’m new to this machine, and have really been trying to go through the forums to find an answer, but the volume of info and my lack of understanding of the jargon is really frustrating - I just can’t get the unit to work.
To verify the RPi is working, I have booted it without an SD card. It immediately goes to a sort of diagnostic screen, so I feel like the RPi is a) working and b) can drive my monitor. When I put the SD card in (setup using the Raspberry Pi Imager with an SD card formatted to Fat32), the RPi powers on, fan comes on, green light flashes a bit, and then the green light goes solid, with a consistent flicker every 8sec (which coincides with a brief flash of the backlight on the monitor).
In the “diagnostic” screen (boot with no SD card), it’s seeing the monitor and getting EDID info (OK), but no display! I’m using a single HDMI cable (no adapter), and the RPi power supply, and the OS image is on a 64GB sd card. Those are the only components involved so far, and I just can’t get anything out of it. It’s driving me crazy!
I’m sure this is all super vague, but any help getting this thing working would be awesome.
