Hi, I wanted to share my project.
In short: 5" daylight readable display with Rpi4. Additional DIY pcb with CanBus, NeoPixel shiftlight, Adc for light sensor to control screen brightness with PWM, RTC, 12 to 5v 2.5A DC-DC converter and a relay. Automatic start up and shutdown. Raspberry Pi OS Lite Bookworm 64bit. Graphics written using Pygame graphics library.

Nice thing with Bookworm is that you can run Pygame straight from command line after installing few packages:
python3-pygame python3-dev python3-pip
I have made a lot of work to make the Python program light as possible and also spent some time to optimize boot.
Right now it boots to working dash in about 18s. It's about 14s to command line.
