Staffroom, classroom and projects • Implementing missing router feature using PI

I think people running support departments can't be particularly good or are just lazy. Their favorite response is no, not possible. I just can't afford to spend time proving them wrong every time.

I have never worked with Raspberry Pi, but the AI suggested that I use a Pi to add features to my LAN router behind the WAN (my ISP router). So, I thought I would ask people here what I need and what is already avialable and how long it would take to put a client VPN filter and maybe even a DLNA server on a Pi.

My ISP router is not flash-able, but it does have a DLNA server. It does have a USB port that should be possible to be used to set up a client VPN function, but the tech support says no. It can only be used as media storage for the DLNA server.

I still don't believe it. I mean the router has an OS and I/P on USB port. What is the difference between data and code? I came across this article https://medium.com/@jackgordon1z8/how-t ... f55d341630. So, in principle it should be possible. But support people said no.

Therefore, I couldn't install NordVPN as a client VPN function on the router. But I have another router that is flash-able. It is a Tp-Link TL-WR841N that I used to use to expand my wi-fi range.

So, I thought, I will use it as a LAN/VPN since it is not excluded in NordVPN list of compatible routers. But when I installed it, I noticed that it didn't have that feature. I thought it must be the old firmware. I mean why wouldn't you provide additional features along with firmware upgrade if you have enough memory.

But according to TP-Link support team there is no point upgrading it to the latest version because I still won't be able to install a client VPN feature or DLNA server. Instead, they gave me list of new routers that cost an arm and a leg.

I still don't believe that either because you can set up multiple virtual servers and despite having set-up a new wi-fi, it is still broadcasting the original/default wi-fi. If you can setup multiple servers, why can't you add the code for the servers? Otherwise, why make it flash-able in the first place?

But as I said, I prefer an easy life myself and therefore I want to know how much memory and what other things I need on a basic Raspberry Pi running Linux or Windows to install nordVPN files on and how to configure it to sit between now only LAN and VAN router.

If anyone knows more and can point me towards what these so-called support teams don't I would be grateful.
